Spotted Saddle Horses - General Appearance
As there have been many crossbreeding with other Horses, the breed of Spotted Saddle Horses has a unique color pattern that makes each Spotted Saddle Horse different from any other. The coat color may vary from solid color with minimal white markings to solid white and include all of the hues known in the Horse world. These are the following physical characteristics of the Spotted Saddle Horse:
Structure and Build: Closely the Spotted Saddle Horse resembles a smaller, more stockier Tennessee Walking Horse.
Head: Of moderate length, refined, with a soft gentle expression.
Eyes: Wide set with soft expression.
Ears: Of moderate length, set well up on the head, carried alertly.
Jaw: Moderate in size, tapering to a fine muzzle with a slight rounding off of the end over the nostrils which are average, the lips are fixed firmly.
Neck: A little arched, muscular, of moderate length, head carried high.
Shoulders: Long, well muscled, withers are high, fine and extending well into the back.
Chest: Well muscled and of moderate width.
Spotted Saddle Horses - Gait
Spotted Saddle Horses are graceful animals and, when walking, they perform the show walk, show gait and canter. As a matter of fact, this breed was performed for these purposes and is famous for it. The Spotted Saddle Horse is also able to produce the rack, stepping pace, fox-trot, single foot and many other variations of the intermediate gait. Spotted Saddle Horses move briskly and can cover from 4 to 8 mile an hour.
The other gait that is called the show gait is an intermediate one for the Spotted Saddle Horses. This is a very smooth and gliding gate that is the same as the flat walk but a bit faster. Thus the Horse can travel at 10-20 miles per hour. When riding on the Spotted Saddle Horse, it feels as if you are flying.
The canter is a forward movement performed by the Spotted Saddle Horse in a diagonal manner to the right or to the left. On the right lead, the Horse should start the gait in this order: left hind, right hind and left for together - then right fore. The order for the lead is the right hind, left hind and right fore, then left fore. When performed in a ring, the animal should lead his canter with the fore leg to the inside of the ring. This way of moving delivered by Spotted Saddle Horses is often called as the "rocking-chair-gait."
